The University of British Columbia

On behalf of UBC's International Relations Students Association, it is my honour to inform you about the fifth annual Night of a Thousand Dinners.

Night of a Thousand Dinners is an event held to raise funds and awareness for the campaign against landmines.   Net proceeds from the evening go to Adopt-a-Minefield, which finances mine clearance and victim assistance programs.  In this respect, our ambitious goal for this year's event is to raise fifteen thousand dollars for Adopt-a-Minefield's sniffing dog program.   Sniffing dogs have proven to be ten times more effective than humans in finding landmines, and are thus essential to the success of this organization.

This year's event will be hosted on November 27th, at the Marriott Pinnacle – one of Vancouver's most exclusive downtown locations. Tickets will be sold for $100, please contact the Event Coordinator for further details. The evening is a chance for students, diplomats and members of the business community to come together and enjoy an exceptional meal while discussing and learning about the global landmine crisis. With over 400 people in attendance two years ago, our dinner has the prestige of being the largest student-organized Night of a Thousand Dinners in the world.

While the Ottawa Convention banning landmines has greatly improved this global pandemic, there is still much to be done.   The Night of a Thousand Dinners is a unique opportunity to express your support for the continuing effort to ban landmines.  We hope that you will further support us in this endeavour as you have in the past.  Furthermore I hope to be in contact with you soon. A sponsorship package has been attached to this email please take a look at it and help us in any way you can.

Tickets are now available online at www.irsa.ca/gala. The Event will be starting with a silent auction and reception at 6:30 dinner will be served at 7:30.  We are delighted to announce our key note speaker to be Tom Molloy, a renowned treaty negotiator who sits on the board of Landmines Canada. The address of Marriot hotel is   1128 W Hastings St, Vancouver.

Sincerely,

Sara Shawesh
